Tips for Au Pairs - Handling Host Family's Car

Everything has its good side and bad side and being an au pair does not give you any exceptions to that. However, although it is only for a brief period of time, you are considered part of the family and not just a mere domestic servant. Because of this big difference, if you are really lucky, then you might be given the chance to get the best side of being an au pair-i.e. being able to use one of your host family's vehicles during your free time. Nevertheless, if you are indeed given this great opportunity, then you might want to take a look at these simple yet useful tips that will help you avoid trouble when handling their vehicle.

To begin with, keep in mind that if you are allowed to use their car on your free time, most of the time, you will be given the responsibility of taking their children to and from school. With this in mind, always make sure that the kids are safely seated on the car before driving off. Also, see to it that you check or put their seatbelts on yourself. Next, never let anyone inside the automobile without your or the parents' express permission. For this, you might want to bring your mobile phone with you wherever you go so that you will be able to contact the mother or father if you are planning to ask for their consent. With the phone, they can also keep in touch with you in case of emergencies. Lastly, before you drive off, take the initiative to ask your hosts on their additional rules and limitations regarding the use of their vehicle.
